-Wisconsin Internet Setup for Windows XP-

This guide will help you configure your computer to access Wisconsin Internet.

Your Start MenuTurn on the computer and wait for it to boot up. ***If your computer has a login screen please make sure you log in as a user with administrative privileges and not a restricted user. Once Windows has finished loading, there should be a button in the lower left-hand corner of the screen labeled Start.

Click on the Start button.Move your cursor over and select “Control Panel”. The Control Panel has two different views. The Category View and the Classic View. The Category View is simpler and shows only the most common Control Panel Features. The Classic View shows all possible Control panel Items. Regardless which view the Control Panel is set, you will need to click on “Network and Internet Connections” as it is an option in either view.

Extra Step for those with Category View in the Control Panel:
Under the section labeled “or pick a Control Panel Option” click on the icon labeled “Network Connections”.

Network Connections WindowOn the left-hand side of the window labeled Network Connections in the box labeled “Network Tasks” click on “Create a new connection”.

 

 

 

New Connection WizardYou have now entered the New Connection Wizard. 
This Wizard will help you connect to Wisconsin Internet. To begin setting up your connection to Wisconsin Internet, just press Next >.

Connect to the InternetThe next screen allows you to select the network connection type you wish to set up. Select “Connect to the Internet” and then press Next >.

Set up my connection manually.The Getting Ready screen asks you how you would like to set up your connection to the Internet. Select “Set up my connection manually” and press Next >Please have your Wisconsin Internet Settings Sheet Ready
  (See Wisconsin Internet Access Numbers Page)

Press Next>

Connect using a dial-up modem.The Internet Connection screen prompts for the connection type you have to the Internet. You should select “Connect using a dial-up modem” then press Next >.

Type in: Wisconsin InternetThe New Connection Wizard now asks for the name of your Internet service provider. In the blank provided type in: Wisconsin Internet and then press Next >.

On this window, you will be prompted to enter the telephone number your Enter the dial-in number from your settings sheet (access numbers page)
Internet Settings sheet. You should not enter a 1 before the number nor should you enter the area code. You may enter a hyphen if you wish; however the computer does not require it. Once you have entered the correct phone number press Next >.

 Press Next>

Here is where the New Connection Wizard asks for your account information. 
You will need to enter your Wisconsin Internet username and password into 
their corresponding entry blanks. For your protection (from wandering eyes)
 your password  will appear on screen as all asterisks (*). You will not be able
 to tell if you typed it correctly, therefore you must re-enter your password in the 
Enter your Username and Password blank labeled Confirm password. This is to ensure the computer knows your correct password, if the two do not match you will be prompted to re-enter the password in both blanks again.In most cases you will want to check all three checkboxes on this screen. After you have completed this screen press Next > .

Press Next>

CongratulationsCongratulations, you have successfully set up a connection to Wisconsin Internet. You should check the checkmark on this screen to add a shortcut to this connection to your desktop and then press Finish.

Press Finish

 

The DialerYou Will Immediately be brought to the connection screen. If you wish to connect to the Internet at this time, press DIAL.

In the future you may initiate the dialer by clicking on the Wisconsin Internet icon on your desktop.

If you open an Internet program without connecting to the Internet, Windows XP will automatically open the dialer.
